On our Peter & Paul Fortress Tour you will visit the 19th century prison and see the tombs of Russian emperors of the Romanov dynasty!


Peter & Paul Fortress is an engineering masterpiece of the XVIII century and the oldest landmark of the city. It was built back in 1704 by the founder of the city, Peter the Great. Though the fortress could repel practically any attack its guns were put to use only in the days of October Revolution in 1917 that is why it remains so well preserved. Shortly after the construction, Peter & Paul fortress became the main Russian prison for political criminals. Moreover, during the Red Terror of the KGB it has become a place of execution. You will get a chance to get inside that old prison cells. In the main church of the fortress, Peter & Paul Cathedral, you will see the tombs of famous Russian emperors of the Romanov dynasty!
